Architectural Technician/Technologist

DJ&P Newland Rennie is a multi-disciplinary practice with 9 offices covering the South West and South Wales. Traditionally with a rural client base, we have over the last 25 years continued to expand our work in the commercial and residential sectors.

Due to continued success and expansion of our Building Surveying and Design team, David James & Partners now have a vacancy for an Architectural Technician/Technologist to be based in our Old Sodbury Office.

Working within our design team you will report directly to an Associate, and will support team members in providing and delivering drawings for a variety of schemes and building types, as well as being responsible for the delivery of your own projects.

Good communication (both written and verbal) and excellent interpersonal skills are essential. You will be required to have good organisational and management skills, will be able to work independently with minimum supervision, and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages, and be Computer literate with experience of Word, Excel etc. and AutoCAD.

We would like a minimum of 3+ year's construction industry experience, excellent design and detailing skills. Experience with 3D modelling packages such as Revit and SketchUp is preferred. A Full Driving Licence and your own transport is required as the position will involve visiting various sites.

Job Specification:

  • Undertaking measured surveys
  • Interrogating a brief and preparation of sketch schemes
  • Research and preparation of Design and Access statements
  • Preparation of full design packages for planning
  • Submitting applications to local authorities
  • Collating and organising technical information. Providing input into specifications with nonstandard details
  • Preparation of detailed working/construction drawings for Building Regulations and Tender packages

Person Specification:

  • Educated to at least HNC / HND level
  • Have excellent CAD skills, be highly accurate and have attention to detail
  • Have an understanding in the Planning process, as well as a detailed understanding of residential Building Regulations
  • Sound technological knowledge of building detailing and modern and some traditional construction materials. The ability to create succinct but considered tender packages
  • Demonstrate an awareness of own impact on the financial performance of his/her projects
  • Willingness to contribute to the detailed design process, identify and resolving potential queries
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and manage time efficiently
  • Ability to lead small projects
  • Be well presented and professional
  • Have a full driving licence and use of a car
  • Contributing to meetings or answering queries in respect of own areas of work or advising others in respect of similar work

Building Surveyor

Due to continual success we are looking to grow our team and recruit a Chartered Building Surveyor to join our Building Surveying and Design team based in our Old Sodbury office. With a varied and interesting work load we cover many aspects of Building Surveying and Architectural Design, and we are looking to build on the high levels of service to our existing client base, whilst moving into new market sectors and areas.

We are seeking an individual who has an eye for detail, a wide range of building surveying experience, and is particularly strong in planning, building regulation, delivering drawing packages, specification writing and contract administration. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a positive proactive approach to the role, and will be committed to delivering excellent customer service, with good commercial results. This role presents an excellent opportunity for a proactive individual to take responsibility for providing all core services on a number of interesting areas of property matters.

Working within our team you will report directly to an Associate. As well as good communication (both written and verbal) and excellent interpersonal skills, you will be required to have good organisational and management skills, will be able to work independently with minimum supervision, and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages, and be computer literate with experience of Word, Excel etc, and AutoCAD and a Full Driving Licence held. Experience with NBS and 3D modelling packages would be preferred but is not a necessity.
